The 'Change Project' presentation with Rob and guests (entire class)
Preparing for Monday's test:
- Review all theories studied up to this point (see the 'Theories' link for a list); you will be asked to apply theory to social situations
(e.g., Drawing from Functionalist and/or Conflict Theory approaches to education, propose 2 recommendations to improve schooling)
(e.g., Use evidence from Milgram's experiment and the Stanford prison experiment to answer the question: Why do 'good' people do 'bad' things?)
- Review videos as needed to support your understanding of the theories (see the link)
- Read over ALL course handouts , notes, and ppt's: look for and highlight various key terms (e.g., latent functions and manifest functions within functionalism; conditioned stimulus, conditioned response, unconditioned stimulus, unconditioned stimulus - Skinner)
Test format:
- Multiple Choice
- Medium Answer (there will be some choice)

Stanley Milgram (social psychologist): authority and obedience.

Milgram's findings generated 2 theories:
1) Theory of Conformity:
To describe how we adjust our behaviour or thinking to follow the behaviour or rules of the group we belong to.
2) The essence of obedience consists of the fact that a person comes to view themself as the instrument for carrying out another person's wishes. A person no longer sees themself as responsible for their actions.
