Tuesday, Sept. 29
Intro to Social Cognitive (Learning) Theory (also known as Observational Learning Theory)
Theorist: Albert Bandura (1961)
Modelling = observing and imitating a specific behaviour
(so... social observation shapes our behaviour)
His research question: How much of what we do and feel is influenced by what we learn from other people?
Click HERE to watch a video about Bandura's bobo doll experiment:
While watching the film, respond to the following:
1. Prior to Bandura's bobo doll experiment, what was the leading theory to explain what happens when people watch aggression?
2. How did the bobo doll experiment turn this theory on its head?
3. What did Bandura's experiments suggest about human behaviour? (this is the basis of social cognitive learning = social learning theory)
How is Bandura's work relevant today?
